Almost everybody sells diamonds these days. Discount, department stores, home shopping, your brother's cousin's friend, even over the Internet. Who can you really trust? Who has the best price?

If you're intelligent enough to click your mouse and read this, you should be able to make the right decision.

First, you have to understand that diamonds are a controlled commodity, just like oil around the world. DeBeers Consolidated Mines controls the price and flow of rough diamonds to various cutters around the world through their Central Selling Organization. At Fiebig Jewelers, we currently buy finished diamonds from two South African cutters and one Israeli firm. You can't get closer to the source anywhere.

Secondly, we understand what really makes a diamond beautiful. The brilliance of a fine diamond is not directly a function of color, clarity, or carat weight but the proper proportions of a well cut diamond. Very few round diamonds are cut to strict Ideal Proportions. Chances are, you've never even seen a well made diamond, certainly never from the so-called "bargain" sources. These alternate sources don't understand "make" or proper proportioning.

Do well-made diamonds cost more?

If you wanted the best possible meal for your anniversary, would you buy hamburger or filet mignon? Yes, well made diamonds cost more, but they are dramatically more beautiful. When you are about to invest hundreds or thousands of dollars, don't you want the most beautiful stone you can get? If you really don't care about buying something fantastic then return to the 'Net and surf for the below average stuff that's always available.

For more technical knowledge about diamonds please see the GIA or Jewelers of America Web site. We are members of both of these organizations. Also please, please feel free to stop in our store or call us anytime we're open (616)-651-2701.
